Morgan: “Behind The Scenes”

Each team is to produce a 5 minute interview using the single camera method. Each interview must include a host that will introduce the show and a guest. The guest must be a Morgan State University employee that will give us an insider’s view of what his/her department or division does here at MSU. You are not allowed to shoot anyone from the communication studies department, WEAA, or the MSU Spokesman Newspaper. Each interview must have must at least three wide shots to establish that the two parties are indeed together however, that shot can not be longer than 10-15 seconds. That raw footage is to be turned in on Tuesday, April 13 2010 @ 1: 00pm. At that time you will begin to edit you production.
Tape must be shot in SP mode!

At an off campus location each team is to shoot 20 answers to a specific question of your choice. That raw footage is to be turned in on Tuesday, April 13 2010 @ 1: 00pm. At that time you will begin to edit you production.

CLASS ASSIGNMENT – THE 5:00 TALKSHOW

GUIDELINES: Each student is to produce a Talk Show running approximately 5 minutes. Class mates are to assume all responsibilities. Heavy emphasis will be on shot composition, framing, directing, technical directing, and audio, Time is VERY CRITICAL therefore for each SECOND your show is either over or under the 5:00 mark, one point will be deducted. This project is worth 100 points. Each project is to be turned in on a labeled Mini DV Video Tape along with a rundown sheet and complete crew assignments, by no later than 11:00a.m. TUESDAY, April 13th .

Each Talk Show should have:
• An opening wide shot with music under.
• A minimum of three different persons acting as talent.
• Closing shot with music under.

PROJECT #2 – THE MUSIC SCORE

GUIDELINES: Each ASSIGNED group is to produce a film sequence using an instrumental piece of music from any genre of music video running no less than 4 minutes in length. Each sequence must tell a story consisting of a beginning, middle, and an end. Each video is to include at least 2 minutes of dialogue during the video…not a narrative but a conversational dialogue. Videos are to be an edited finished product. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO APPEAR IN YOUR GROUP’S VIDEO. Each video is to be turned in on a Mini DV Video Tape OR DVD @ 6:00PM, April 7, 2010. NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!! Story board and script from each group along with final song selection must be turned in March 17th by 6:00pm. Grading emphasis will be on shot composition, framing, editing, lighting and originality.

Each student is to produce a 5 minute mini documentary, using the Cinema Verite’ style, about a person of his/her choosing. Concentrate on telling a story about an average day in the life of that person using quality news gathering and reporting techniques. Remember the power that good sound and lighting brings to a story. Expect nothing but the best of yourselves. Use good time management and pre-production skills. Remember, “excuses are the nails that build houses of failure”. Edit your feature and submit your flawless videotape or DVD to me by Wednesday, March 17, 2010@ 8:00pm

Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Working with client groups to understand the requirements of their projects and to suggest potential alternatives
• Placing requests in context, and resolving discrepancies in order to maximize efficiencies.
• Editing promotional spots, marketing presentations and programming; delivering completed projects on videotape, DVD or as a file.
• Troubleshooting and initiating repair, in the event of equipment failure.
• Other duties, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Must be well versed in post production and skilled as an Avid Editor.
• Good with music approach, effects-savvy for various forms of entertainment, life-style and documentary promo projects.
• Must be proficient offline as online, with experience in SD, HD, and the emerging tapeless post production environment.
• Working knowledge of MS Windows MS Word and Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work effectively under changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
• Legal right to work in the United States.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 5-7 years of commercial and/or promo editing experience. Must possess strong Avid Media Composer and effect skills. A strong working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Photoshop preferred.
